Sensory Integration Program

Technology: Desktop: All students in grades 9-12 sensory program are assigned a desktop and therefore work from desktops a good portion of the day. Desktops have adaptive technology including oversized keyboards and a wealth of sensory based software learning programs

Reading Instruction: Reading Milestones, Reading A to Z and Razkids, Reading Workstations for independent and group leveled reading instruction.

Math: AGS textbooks for Illinois 9-12 Math courses are used. AGS Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Algebra, and Consumer Math. Math technology/software used to supplement are IXL Math, Brain Pop, Discovery Education and many other technology based programs.

Social Studies and Science: JTC utilizes AGS textbooks for High School level Science including Chemistry, Biology, General Science, Physical Science, etc. for direct instruction. Supplemental resources such as Discovery Education, BrainPop and various other software and web based programs are included.

Life Skills/Social Skills: Cooking classes are included on daily schedule, shopping is included on weekly schedule. Specific hygiene plans are made and in place for youth in need. Community access trips that support life skills instruction are taken weekly. High School Course Textbook: Food & Nutrition for You, Prentice Hall, 2010 and Textbook: Glencoe: Applying Life Skills

Health: Topics covered within Health Education courses vary widely, but typically include personal health (nutrition, mental health and stress management, drug/alcohol abuse prevention, disease prevention, and first aid) and consumer health issues. Textbook used is AGS Discover Health. School Nurse also does various assemblies to cover the issues related to health that affect teenagers today including pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases and hygiene. Counselors create transitioning plans for all students that include a life skills health component individualized for each student.
